To make a very long story short, Mark and Derek had already fashioned a band with the Guttermouth name. When this dissolved, Mark and Derek wanted Scott and Jamie to join them and continue under the name "Guttermouth." One of them knew Clint, who became the bass player. Thus, Guttermouth was formed.

In the summer of 1989, the ship was off and sailing. They had lots of friends and were fortunate enough to get gigs. They would literally play everywhere and slowly built a strong local following. After their Full Length Album was out for four years, they decided it was time for a new album. They had been friends with The Offspring, and Dexter Holland, the singer, decided he wanted to start a record label. They discussed all their options and decided that Dexter's new label could give them the opportunities they had missed for so long. So, in May of 1994 Friendly People came out on Nitro Records, and Guttermouth was off, hitting the road in support of their latest endeavor.

In spring of 1995, Steve Rapp joined Guttermouth, and in 1996 the band released Teri Yakimoto. In 1997 they followed up with Musical Monkey. They decided by now to just be themselves and let it flow. All concern for good taste was over. Musical Monkey was written faster than any other record, and it was a fun and refreshing experience for them. Next out was their live album called Live: From The Pharmacy which was originally recorded at the Jam Room in South Carolina in the summer of 1994.

In 1999 Guttermouth released Gorgeous and along for the ride was new member Ty Smith on drums, Captain James Nunn on bass, Scott Sheldon and Derek Davis on guitars and, yours truly, Mark "Mercury" Adkins on vocals. Gorgeous encompasses a harder edge and is filled with the Guttermouth humor fans have come to love and worship.

Guttermouth have toured in the U.S., Europe, Japan, Australia, and Canada with Sublime, The Offspring, NOFX, the Toy Dolls, and the Descendents, to name a few.
